Waste Reduction Programs

Village Recycling Program
The Village works with Groot for residential and commercial waste and recycling collection. To learn more about these programs on the Village recycling page, click HERE. For a quick and handy "cheat sheet" for recyclable materials, click HERE to print and post near your home recycling station.

Household Chemical Waste Collection
Household chemical Waste (HCW) collections are provided by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) and are open to all Illinois residents. The nearest collection site is located at Naperville Fire Station #4, 1971 Brookdale Road, Naperville, IL . The collection site is open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The site does NOT accept latex paint. Village Accepts Batteries for Recycling
The Village collects household batteries for recycling at the front counter of the Village Hall. Accepted materials will include AAA, AA, C, D, and 9V. All rechargable batteries (lithium, NiMh, and NiCad) MUST have masking tape on contact points (ends of battery) or be contained in an individual self-locking plastic bag. Collection times are Monday- Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Batteries are accepted from individual residents; collections will not be accepted from schools, institutions or businesses that have collected on their employee's behalf. Click HERE to view the program information flier. 

Electronics Recycling Programs 
Small electronics are accepted daily in the Village Hall lobby containers. The containers are provided by Recycling Avenue, an organization which provides assistance to physically disabled adults. Large electronics are accepted at the Village Hall, 1900 Hassell Road from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Mondays from April through November.

Village an Endorser of U.S. EPA WasteWise Program
WasteWise is a free, voluntary partnership program sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  The program goal is to reduce Municipal and select industrial solid waste. As a WasteWise member, the Village reports annually on efforts made to prevent pollution and conserve natural resources.

Recycling Containers for Village Facilities
Recycling containers are accessible to guests at Village buildings, thereby contributing to the Village's efforts to reduce waste. 

Change in Habits
The Village has drastically cut the purchase of polystyrene cups and dining materials in favor of reusable containers. Staff uses their own coffee mugs and meeting visitors are provided with reusable glassware.   

Village staff also work to conserve energy and materials when it comes to technology. Emails are printed infrequently, and when possible, materials are copied onto both sides of the paper. Staff computers are set to sleep to conserve energy when not in use.
