The Traffic Control Division provides maintenance on over (10,000) Village street signs and over (2,500) street and parking lot lights. This team also installs and maintains (120) seasonal banners four times annually. Other responsibilities include sign fabrication for other departments and sign visibility clearing.

Selected 2023 Accomplishments

  • Repaired or replaced over (95) street lights throughout the Village.
  • Fabricated and installed (1,700) traffic and event signs.
  • Completed (34) street segments under the sign re‐posting program.
  • Managed and inspected (4) complete cycles and (1) partial cycle of contractual street sweeping of (297) curb lane miles of roadway, as well as several sweeps for special events.
  • Oversaw the replacement of (4) knocked down street lights.

Pavement Maintenance 

The Pavement Maintenance unit provides for the maintenance of approximately (158) center lane miles of Village asphalt pavement and roadway markings. This program addresses small-scale asphalt repairs resulting from utility dig-ups and pavement failures, road reconstruction driveway repairs and inlet rehabilitation. This unit also oversees the re-striping of roadway markings within the Village through a combination of in-house and contracted services.

Selected 2023 Accomplishments

  • Installed (210) tons of hot asphalt material to repair potholes, excavation sites, and other roadway repairs.
  • Installed (35) tons of cold-patch asphalt material, largely for pothole repair and temporary cold-weather roadway repairs.
  • Supervised and inspected (279,000) feet of pavement markings installed via contractual services.
  • Applied (48,000) feet of pavement markings in-house.
  • Installed and removed temporary traffic control for seasonal events at the Village Green.
  • Assisted Engineering by hot patching asphalt at (138) residential locations related to the 2023 Road Revitalization Project.

Report a Street Light Outage
To report a street light outrage, please call the Public Works Department (847) 490-6800. The Public Works Department only services Village street lights.

If a ComEd streetlight is out or flickering, please use ComEd’s Request Street Light Maintenance form.
