Team Overview
The Village of Hoffman Estates Emergency Management Agency consists of about 20 volunteers and Auxiliary Officers. Our team assists the Police Department and Fire Department during large scale events such as the Northwest Fourth Fest, the National Night Out and the Spring Awakening Music Festival. Emergency Management efforts include traffic assistance, public education, training and other preparedness activities.
Emergency Management develops the village wide emergency plans with an All-Hazards approach towards preparedness. This means the Village of Hoffman Estates works together within our municipal public safety structure, local stakeholders and surrounding municipalities to protect its citizens to all types of hazards.
The VOHE EMA team consists of three main facets: Traffic Support, Amateur Radio Team and Search & Rescue Support. We also work with the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army, to receive training on Shelter Operations in the event a disaster requires opening a shelter to support the residents of Hoffman Estates. Our team holds monthly training meetings when possible, and expands our training to encompass various topics in emergency management including Pets in Disaster, Weather Spotter training, Utility Training, Hazardous Materials, Radio Operations, Basic Medical Overview, and Disaster Preparedness.
The Village of Hoffman Estates is also a member of the Joint Emergency Management System (JEMS), a group of 10 municipalities that prioritize Emergency Management and work together to develop Emergency Plans, Large Scale Training and work together during real-world emergencies.
Although some hazards are less frequent than others, the Hoffman Estates Emergency Management Agency facilitates additional planning and training on hazards with the highest potential including: Severe Weather events, Active Threats, Public Health Emergencies/Pandemics, Winter Weather events, and Transportation Emergencies.
