The Village of Hoffman Estates takes pride in attracting and retaining a diverse, high-quality, professional workforce in order to meet the service demands of the Village's residents and businesses. To remain competitive with similar markets, such as comparable local governments within the northwest suburbs, the Village's Compensation and Benefit strategy is to maintain employees' salaries and benefits at or above the midpoint of a set of historically comparable communities.

The communities that the Village of Hoffman Estates has historically used for comparison are Schaumburg, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Elgin, Elk Grove Village, Des Plaines and Palatine. The Department of Human Resources Management monitors comparable communities' salary and benefit information on an ongoing basis. In addition, factors such as cost of living, employee performance, and union contract obligations are used to determine the Village's compensation and benefits packages.
