Hoffman Estates Police Department Lateral Entry Process

The Hoffman Estates Police Department is currently seeking qualified, experienced police officers for immediate lateral entry.  The Department offers competitive salary and benefits along with future growth and advancement opportunities.  Currently employed Police Officers can easily apply for a position with the Hoffman Estates Police Department through our lateral entry process.   

Current Salary Subject to MAP96 Contract: $76,614.04 - $109,619.07
(depending on experience)

Patrol Shifts are 12 hours and chosen annually by seniority

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

Applicants for lateral appointment must be an Illinois Certified Policer Officer and meet the following minimum requirements at the time of application to be considered for the position:

• United States citizen 
• Possess a Bachelor's Degree
• Valid driver's license
• Must be at least 21 years old
• Must possess certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and be in good standing with the ILETSB and current police department.
• Must have at least two years of full-time continuous service as a non-probationary sworn officer.
• Must agree to comply with all requirements of the position and have the ability to pass all examination and training requirements.
• Ability to furnish upon request a copy of the following: professional licenses, training certificates, employee evaluations, and other employment records requested.

Selection Process

• Pre-screening application review by Police Department Command Staff
• Interview with the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners and Police Department Command Staff
• Character and background investigation and credit check
• Polygraph Examination
• Post-offer examinations including but are not limited to: psychological evaluation, medical examination, vision testing, and drug screening.
• All appointments are subject to an eighteen month probationary period.

 Lateral Entry Eligibility List

Lateral hire applicants who have successfully met all the hiring requirements will be placed on the final eligibility roster for lateral entry in the order of relative excellence based upon their scores.  Additions to this list will be made as new applications are received.
