Police: Safe from the Start

Safe From the Start (SFS) is a multi-year demonstration project to develop, implement and evaluate comprehensive and coordinated community-based models to identify, assess and respond to children, ages 0-5, who have been exposed to violence in their home and/or community, as well as their caregivers.

Signs your child may have been exposed to violence:

• Nightmares or changes in sleeping habits
• Changes in eating habits
• Fears or anxiety
• Nervousness
• Aggressive behavior
• Distractibility
• Poor attention span
• Bedwetting or regression
• Withdrawal from friends or favorite activities

Safe From the Start provides the following FREE services:

• Specialized Assessment
• Intensive Case Management
• Therapeutic Services
• Community Education and Violence Prevention
• Professional Consultation
