Annual Street Revitalization Project
What is the difference between reconstruction and resurfacing?
Street reconstruction involves full removal and replacement of the existing roadway and curb & gutter, along with partial replacement of sidewalks and driveway aprons.
Street resurfacing involves the removal and replacement of the wearing surface pavement, along with partial replacement of curb & gutter and sidewalks.
How long will construction take?
Most of the reconstruction or resurfacing work generally will be completed within a one-month time frame, excluding final landscape restoration. At some locations, additional underground infrastructure improvements will be included in the scope of the project, which can affect project timelines.
What is the project schedule?
The entire project is scheduled to run from mid-March through November. A tentative schedule will be posted on our website once construction begins. Depending on weather, contractor progress and other factors, these dates will change throughout the course of the project.
How will I know when construction is starting in my area?
Residents within the project limits will receive a notice from the contractor placed at their door three (3) days before the actual start of reconstruction or resurfacing work on the street. Signs noting construction dates will be posted at the beginning and end of the street. There may be times when you see little or no work occurring on the street. During these periods, the contractor may be working elsewhere along the street, on a separate roadway, or delayed due to weather.
Will I have access to my driveway?
Depending on whether the street will be reconstructed or resurfaced, driveway access will be limited at times. Residents within the project limits will receive a notice from the contractor placed at their door three (3) days in advance detailing when loss of driveway access will occur.
Where do I park?
During the period when driveway access is unavailable, it will be important that all vehicles be moved out of your driveway and parked on adjacent streets before 7:00 a.m. For your convenience, the Police Department will lift some parking restrictions adjacent to project locations and increase patrol activity. Parking will be allowed on both sides of adjacent streets, but it is still prohibited to park within 20 feet of a crosswalk, 15 feet of a fire hydrant, or facing against the flow of traffic.
What happens to my mail during construction?
Mail delivery will continue during the street project. On some streets, mailboxes next to the curb will be removed during construction. Cluster mailboxes will be set up at the end of the block for mail delivery in these situations. On most streets, mail delivery will occur as normal.
Will there still be garbage pickup?
Garbage pickup will occur on your regularly scheduled day; however, pickup times may vary based on construction activities scheduled on your street. To ensure pickup, please have the garbage set out by 6:00 a.m. on the regularly scheduled day.
When will my parkway grass be restored?
Restoration of the disturbed parkways will occur after completion of the street work. Sod will be used on streets that have been reconstructed. Seed and erosion control blankets will be used on streets being resurfaced.
All areas will be backfilled with topsoil for safety shortly after the completion of roadway work. Due to high summer temperatures, most final landscape restoration work will not begin until mid-September.
At the completion of the project, Village engineers will assemble a list of items that were not satisfactorily completed by the contractor, which will include improper landscape restoration. Please be assured that, if there are deficiencies, Village engineers will be working with the contractor to correct them.

Project Update: Week of 11-11-24 - Final Project Update
All work is weather dependent.
- 11-11-24 Weekly Progress Update (pdf) - document includes updated tentative start dates
Almond Lane: Landscaping restoration is scheduled to continue the beginning of the week. Surface paving is scheduled to occur mid-week. See "Surface Course” notes under "Additional Paving Notes" below regarding fresh oil.
Note: Engineering staff will continue to monitor growth of landscape restoration areas through Spring 2025 to ensure proper growth.
SPECIAL PROJECT NOTES:
- Preliminary construction activities, such as project layout, tree root pruning, concrete sawcutting, delivery of materials/equipment etc., may occur along your roadway days/weeks prior to the actual construction project start dates. These activities should not affect your ability to access your driveway.
- Residences within the project limits will receive letters handed out by the contractor at least three (3) days prior to the start of construction work and loss of driveway access.
- Changes to the tentative start dates can occur frequently. Any changes to previously listed starting dates are highlighted within the Progress Spreadsheet (pdf) document posted each week.
- Remember cell phone use while driving is prohibited in construction work zones and as always, please drive cautiously through these work areas.
ADDITIONAL PAVING NOTES:
-
BINDER COURSE (1st Layer of Asphalt – reconstruction/overlay streets only) – Paving signs are placed at the ends of the street on the day prior to asphalt installation. This layer does not require oil application prior to paving as paving occurs on the stone base.
-
LEVEL BINDER COURSE (1st Layer of Asphalt – resurfacing streets only) – Fresh Oil Signs are placed at the ends of the street between 12-24 hours prior to oil application (signs are placed on Friday prior to a Monday morning oil application). Oil is typically placed in the early morning hours and level binder pavement is placed later that day (all work is weather dependent). Paving signs are also placed at the ends of the street on the day prior to any asphalt installation. Any driving on your street after the “Fresh Oil” application will be AT YOUR OWN RISK. If street access is necessary, driving at less than 10 mph is recommended. The Village and contractor are NOT responsible for oil on your vehicle when the “Fresh Oil” signs are standing. This material may track onto your driveway, and/or adhere to your vehicle.
-
SURFACE COURSE (Final Layer of Asphalt – all streets) - Fresh Oil Signs are placed at the ends of the street between 12-24 hours prior to oil application. Oil is typically placed in the early morning hours and final surface pavement is placed later that day (all work is weather dependent). Paving signs are also placed at the ends of the street on the day prior to surface asphalt installation.
