Veterans' Memorial and Flag Rotation Ceremony

The Veterans' Memorial was officially dedicated on Nov. 12, 1988, to honor in perpetuity the deceased veterans who have served our country and preserved our freedom.

The Memorial was designed to be simple yet majestic, while also reflecting the branch of service of the veterans themselves. The Memorial consists of five granite monoliths arranged in a semicircle. Each monolith is engraved with the symbol of one of the branches of the military. At the base of the center flagpole is a display case where the name, rank, branch of service, and dates of service of the deceased veteran are listed. The veteran's casket flag flies on the main flagpole, while the service flag flies at half-mast above the monolith representing the veteran's branch of service.

The flag rotation ceremony is held at the Veterans' Memorial every Sunday at 1 p.m., promptly. The public is invited to attend. The Veterans' Memorial is located outside the new Hoffman Estates Police Department at 411 W. Higgins Road, Hoffman Estates, IL 60169. The casket flags of deceased veterans fly above the Veterans' Memorial. Currently, there are approximately 90 flags in the rotation.

The Veterans' Memorial was built and is solely maintained on charitable contributions. Tax-deductible donations for the perpetual maintenance of the Memorial may be sent to the Veterans' Memorial Fund, c/o the Village of Hoffman Estates, 1900 Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates, IL 60169. Donations help maintain this Memorial honoring all U.S. veterans now and for generations to come.

To honor a deceased veteran, family or friends must fill out an application and submit proof of the deceased veteran's service in the U.S. military (e.g., discharge papers, DD-214, or other positive proof of service); the rank and dates of service; and a 5' x 9-1/2' nylon casket flag. An application to join the flag rotation is available by clicking here (PDF).
