Have you ever wondered how films are selected and honored at the Cannes Film Festival in France, or why actors and directors desire to be honored at this event? And what is the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm)? Who receives it, and why?
The Arts, Celebrations and Sister Cities Commissions invite the community to attend an informative program that will answer those questions and more about the one of the world's most famous film festivals.
Dann Gire, film critic with the Daily Herald, will discuss the history of the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, May 2, at the Village Hall from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Dann will also moderate a discussion on the French film, "OSS 117," which will be shown at the event. The film is a satire of the popular James Bond movies, featuring French actor, Jean Dujardin, as a perfect French Sean Connery, bumbling his way through the Middle East. The film will be in French with English subtitles. Some material may be considered unsuitable their children, so parental guidance is suggested.
In keeping with the movie theme, popcorn and light refreshments will be served. There is no charge for attending the program, but a voluntary donation of nonperishable food items or a monetary donation, benefiting local food pantries, would be appreciated.
See you at the movies!
