The Hoffman Estates Police Department is partnering with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for a drug disposal event. *Unfortunately, no liquids or needles will be accepted at this event. Aside from the above listed hours, prescription drugs will not be accepted at Village facilities under any circumstances.
The initiative addresses a vital public safety and health issue. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's National Survey on Drug Use and Health, more than seven million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs. Studies also show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.
Residents will be able to properly and safely dispose of accumulated, unwanted and unused prescription pills, including controlled substances. The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County's (SWANCC) is not permitted to accept controlled substances from residents, which has been the missing link to a comprehensive program.
