As of January 2012, it is illegal to dispose of electronics in Illinois landfills. To aid residents in disposing of their used electronic waste, the Delta Institute and the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, with funding from the Cook County Department of Environmental Control, is holding a free "E-waste" collection event.
Who can come to the event? Is there a fee?
Any residents of Illinois can drop off their "E-waste" at no charge.
What can I expect at the event?
Fast and efficient disposal. Traffic will be professionally directed at the site. Upon entering the site, you can expect to drop off your electronics and be back on your way within just a few minutes! You do not need to exit your car at any time. Courteous and professionally trained staff will remove your electronics from your car.
Are there any future recycling events?
Hoffman Estates will be holding a Village Recycling/Document Destruction Event on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Susan H. Kenley-Rupnow Public Works Center. More information on the Village's event can be found here.
