On Saturday, May 5, the Youth Commission will present a College Readiness Seminar and Scholarship Panel from 10 a.m. to noon at the Village Hall, 1900 Hassell Road, to help you understand and combat the ever-increasing costs of obtaining a higher education. Learn about how three different families were able to get their four children through college without any major out-of pocket expenses or student loans. Volunteer speakers will share tips, techniques and knowledge that could help your family to avoid the rising cost of college. They emphasize the fact that, although there are things you can do to defer college costs for your high school junior or senior, you'll be most successful if you start thinking about and planning for college much earlier. Speakers will address topics including: Middle School Matters, College Readiness Seminar for 9th and 10th Graders, Junior and Senior Years in High School Matters, and a Scholarship Panel and Open Discussion. Panelists include three mothers and a former college financial aid director with more than 25 years' experience. To register for the seminar, call Sue Lessen at 847-781-2606.
