ANNUAL SPEAKER SERIES- “Oh Freedom, Songs of the Civil Rights Movement”
Singer-Songwriter Chris Vallillo and members of the Hoffman Estates High School Choir Thursday, February 1 at 7 p.m. at Village Hall, 1900 Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates
In a show created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the civil rights movement, award winning folksinger Chris Vallillo will present “Oh Freedom, Songs of the Civil Rights Movement” along with members of the Hoffman Estates High School Choir. The Civil Rights Movement has been described as one of the greatest singing movements that this country has experienced. From “We Shall Overcome” to “This Little Light of Mine”, music played a vital role in that historic struggle both as an inspirational rallying point and as a way to spread the message of equality and justice. Intermixed with the music, Vallillo will present first-hand accounts of the historic struggles and discuss the impact of music on our nation's most important social cause. This program is sponsored by the Hoffman Estates Arts Commission. Admission is free; however registration is encouraged.
