Mayor's Monarch Pledge

Post Date:05/27/2022 7:15 AM

Please join the Village at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8, at the Children’s Advocacy Center Butterfly Garden, located at 640 Illinois Boulevard, for a reading of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge Proclamation.

With its bright orange and black wings, the Monarch butterfly is easy to identify. Native to North America, this beautiful creature is known for its cross-country travel, migrating over 3,000 miles every year to make its way to the oyamel fir forest in Mexico. Unfortunately, the number of Monarch butterflies has dwindled. The National Wildlife Federation, among other groups, has organized efforts to raise awareness about this important species, offering facts and tips on protecting the Monarch throughout the country.

The Mayor’s Monarch Pledge is one way that local mayors have banded together to ensure the continuity of this iconic butterfly. You can help by learning about Monarchs and creating habitats where they can thrive. Visit pollinator.org for more information!
