Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) is a day dedicated to honoring those who perished due to the atrocities of the Holocaust, as well as the sacrifices of survivors who endured unimaginable trauma to forge a path for the next generation. This day of remembrance promotes Holocaust education to address antisemitic incidents and the recent rise of Holocaust denialism. The dangers of prejudice, discrimination, antisemitism and dehumanization are also themes brought forth on this day, revealing the full range of human experiences and raising important considerations about what it means to be human.
Please join the Health & Human Services Department on Thursday, April 28, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Village Hall to interactively connect with survivors' experiences, lessons, and the stories they have passed down to the next generation. The event will include stations of video testimonies from survivors, letters written by survivors and their families, a video and discussion on generational trauma, and an art gallery from the World Holocaust Remembrance Center featuring artwork made during the Holocaust by 20 artists, half of whom did not survive.
Please call 847-781-4850 for more info and to RSVP for this event.
