April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. According to Child Protective Services agencies, more than 686,000 children were victims of maltreatment in 2012. Many adults are uncomfortable talking with children about abuse, but it is important to remember that trusted adults can help children recognize the signs of abuse and answer some tough questions that children may have. To learn more, please join Health and Human Services on Saturday, April 18, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Children's Advocacy Center of North and Northwest Cook County, 640 Illinois Blvd. Robin Palmissano will discuss how to talk to children about abuse, and teach you how to answer tough questions. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be served. For more information and to register, contact Robin at robin.palmissano@hoffmanestates.org or 847-78-4861 by April 11.
