Police Reports:
Police reports can be requested by submitting a F.O.I.A request online at: Freedom of Information Requests (FOIA).
- Due to the sensitivity, you may be required to prove your identity and physically pickup your request.
- Please allow 5 days for pickup.
- Please note that all police records are subject to the Illinois Freedom of Information Law and may have parts redacted.
Important information to keep in mind when filing a FOIA Request:
- Be specific- avoid using terminology like “any and all records” as this often creates a disproportionate burden and may result in either a delay in a response or denial of the request.
- Be aware of case status- if an investigation is open and ongoing, records related to the investigation may be withheld if their release will interfere with reasonably contemplated law enforcement criminal or administrative proceedings.
- Cooperation - We want to work with you.
- Narrow request that are unduly burdensome.
- Get records released, once cases are closed.
Criminal Background Checks:
- Criminal background checks can be obtained through the Illinois State Police website, click here for details.
- The Hoffman Estates Police will only provide local background checks for Hoffman Estates current or past residences.
