Permit Required for EV Charging Stations
All EV Chargers must have an approved building permit prior to installation. Installing one without first securing a permit may result in code violations, unsafe installations, and fines.
How to apply for a permit
-
Visit the Village's Building Permits page. +
-
Apply for an Electric Vehicle Charging Station permit on the Village's Permit Portal.
-
Submit the appropriate documentation, including equipment specifications, electrical plan, and contractor information. The contractor must be state certified to install EV Chargers.
-
Once the permit has been approved and issued, installation may begin. The village will require various inspections, which will be identified in your permit.
EV Charger Installers must comply with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) certification and requirements. For specific requirements, please see the ICC EV Charger Installer Certification website. Installers must be licensed and insured electrical contractors.
Why this matters
-
Permits ensure all installations meet current electrical standards and reduce fire risk.
-
The permitting process helps to ensure installations are safe and meet all municipal standards.
Thank you for helping to maintain the Village's commitment to safety and compliance!
