The Hoffman Estates Police Department is continually testing for new Police Officers. After qualifications are met and the successful completion of a series of tests, an applicant will be placed on an eligibility list. This list is then used to hire new Police Officers. New Police Officers must then successfully pass a three-month Police Academy and spend approximately three months with a Field Training Officer.

Salary range as of January 1, 2023 is $73,264.90 - $112,359.55 with excellent benefits.  Immediate openings are projected. 

Below are some of the qualifications required to be hired as a Hoffman Estates Police Officer:

  • Citizen of the United States, Naturalized Citizen, or legally authorized under Federal Law to work in the United States and is authorized under Federal Law to obtain, carry, purchase or otherwise possess a firearm, or an individual against whom immigration action has been deferred by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under the Federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals process and is authorized under Federal Law to obtain, carry, purchase, or otherwise possess a firearm.
  • Bachelor's Degree at the time of application or (1) 36-months honorable active duty Military Service, (2) served 180 days of active, honorable combat duty in the US Armed Forces recognized by the Department of Defense.
  • Eyesight shall be at least 20/20 corrected and may not be afflicted with color blindness or any other eye abnormalities at the time of offer of employment.
  • Must be 21 years old and be under the age of 35, at the time of application.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • No felony convictions.

 How to apply:

  • Download the application and fill it out completely. Sign required waivers.
  • Gather all supporting documentation including: 
    • Copy of high school diploma or equivalent
    • Copy of driver's license
    • Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship: can include: county / state birth certificate, U.S. passport, naturalization papers.
    • Copy of official college transcripts - unofficial transcripts not accepted
    • Copy of valid POWER test card (must show proof of passing within one year of application)
    • Copy of military DD-214, if applicable
  • Mail or hand-deliver the completed application along with all the required documents to:

All portions of the testing process are mandatory.  Failure to attend and successfully complete any portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.
