Permit Submittals

*IMPORTANT UPDATE* The Village of Hoffman Estates has adopted the 2021 International Codes, 2020 National Electrical Code, and applicable State of Illinois codes which are effective for all permit submissions received on July 1, 2023 or thereafter. See the “Applicable Building Codes” tab below for further information.

NEW SYSTEM! Contractors and residents will apply for building permits and schedule inspections through the Village's new eTRAKiT portal. This new process streamlines submittals and makes it easier to obtain permits.

Contractors must initially contact Building & Code Enforcement to set up an account and receive an AEC# to log into the portal. Public users can create an account right from the eTRAKiT homepage.

Click here for instructions on how to use the eTRAKiT portal (PDF). All communication between the applicant and staff will occur through eTRAKiT. Please check the portal regularly for updates or additional information that may be required.

DUE TO HIGH VOLUME, THE AVERAGE PERMIT REVIEW CYCLE IS 14 DAYS.

Contractor Licensing and Registration

All contractors performing work in Hoffman Estates are required to complete the following form and provide the required documentation.

The contractor registration form as well as all required documentation must be submitted via email to buildingpermits@hoffmanestates.org.
